Change request (ECR)
Also called engineering change request
A change request (ECR) proposes a specific change to a product, with the reason, the affected parts and documents, and the impact, so a review board can approve or reject it before any work is done.
The impact analysis is where linked data pays off. In a connected system, the change request shows every assembly, document, mBOM and process plan that uses the affected part. Without that, someone searches for hours and still misses one.
A good review board looks at manufacturing and supply impact here, not after release.
