ITAR

Also called International Traffic in Arms Regulations

ITAR, the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, controls who can access defense-related technical data. For PLM it means controlling where the system runs, who administers it, and which people can see which data.

For a defense manufacturer, ITAR shapes the whole PLM setup: hosting (on premises or a government cloud), who can be an administrator, which consultants can touch the data, and how access is controlled object by object.

It also limits who can do the implementation. Element’s consultants work in ITAR-controlled and government-cloud environments.
