Engineering bill of materials (eBOM)
Also called EBOM
An engineering bill of materials (eBOM) is the product structure as engineering designed it: assemblies and parts organized by function, usually driven by the CAD model. It's the starting point for the manufacturing BOM.
The eBOM answers “what is this product made of?” It doesn’t say how the plant builds it: there’s no assembly sequence, no raw material, no plant-specific choices.
When manufacturing has to rebuild that structure by hand in ERP, errors creep in at the handoff. Keeping the eBOM clean and linked is what lets the mBOM be derived from it instead.
